Uncle Ben's Converted Rice (now known as Ben's Original Parboiled Long Grain White Rice) is parboiled, meaning the rice grains were steamed before they were husked. This process infuses the grains with many nutrients that would otherwise have been thrown away with the husk.

Because of the steaming process, parboiled rice requires a shorter cooking time than other varieties of rice. Like most types of rice, however, Uncle Ben's Converted Rice requires an exact volume of water and a fixed cooking time for the best results.

Stir together 1 cup of Uncle Ben’s Converted Rice (Ben’s Original Parboiled Long Grain White Rice) and 2-1/4 cups water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat and simmer the rice, covered, for 20 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the stove, without removing the cover, and let the rice stand at room temperature for 5 minutes. If the rice has not absorbed all of the water, let it stand for another 3 minutes and check again. Gently fluff the rice with a fork before serving.

Stir together 1 cup of Uncle Ben’s Converted Rice (Ben’s Original Parboiled Long Grain White Rice) and 2-1/4 cups of water in a medium, microwave-save bowl. Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe lid or plate and microwave on high for 8 minutes. Stir the rice. Microwave on medium — 50 percent — power for another 10 to 15 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes. When most of the water has been absorbed, remove the bowl from the microwave. Let the rice stand, covered, at room temperature for 5 minutes. If the rice has not absorbed all of the water, let it stand for another 3 minutes and check again. Gently fluff the rice with a fork before serving.

 Tip

These instructions make enough rice for four 1-cup servings. Don’t rinse rice before or after cooking — as you do with raw rice — or you risk losing vitamins. The required microwave cooking time will vary based on the model.
