Since pastrami is already cooked, it just needs to be heated. Pastrami can be sliced thin for a sandwich or thicker and be served with potatoes and vegetables.

Steamed Pastrami

Step 1

Fit the steam basket into a pot and pour in water to 1 inch below the basket.

Bring the water to a boil.

Step 3

Put the desired amount of sliced pastrami into the steam basket and reduce the heat to medium. The water should be heated to a low boil or a high simmer.

Step 4

Cover and steam for 10 to 20 minutes.

Step 5

Prepare a bulky roll with your favorite mustard, mayonnaise, horseradish or butter.

Step 6

Pile on the pastrami and top with a slice of your favorite cheese.

Sauteed Pastrami

Step 1

Preheat a large skillet with butter or olive oil over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the thinly-sliced onion and saute for about 5 minutes, until the onion has become translucent.

Step 3

Add the desired amount of sliced pastrami to the skillet and toss with the onions. Cook for another 5 minutes.

Step 4

Layer slices of your favorite cheese on top of the pastrami and onions. Turn off the heat, cover and let the cheese melt.

Step 5

Prepare a bulky roll with your choice of condiments, such as mayonnaise, mustard, horseradish or butter. Pile on the pastrami and enjoy.
