Maca is available in four varieties – cream, black, red or purple – with none being medicinally superior to the others, according to the University of Michigan Health System. The amount of maca powder you should consume daily depends on the reason you’re using it and in what form. Maca powder may be loose or in capsules.

Dosage and Purposes
Maca is purported to assist with increasing libido and boosting male fertility. For these purposes, Mark A. Stengler of the Stengler Center for Integrative Medicine suggests 1,500 to 3,000 milligrams in capsule form daily, based on results of studies. For treating menopause symptoms, 2,000 milligrams daily is appropriate. If you use loose powder, Stengler suggests starting with 1 teaspoon daily and working up to a maximum dose of 3 to 6 teaspoons daily. He recommends continuing this regimen for three to six months and then taking a break of one to two weeks before resuming use of maca powder.
